WORLD HISTORY The focus of the curriculum for 6th grade world history is The Rise and Fall of Civilization.
FIRST QUARTER Unit 1 - The focus of this unit will be on how humans use geography and historical methods to organize the way we see our world. Content includes the 6 elements of geography, reading maps, geography vocabulary, and undestanding how historians and archaeologists work. Unit 2 (Part A) - The geography of Mesopatamia, the city-states of Sumer, Babylonia and Assyria and the beginnings of Judaism.
SECOND QUARTER Unit 2 (Part B) - Analyzing artifacts. Unit 3 - Egyptian geography, religion, society and ancient Nubia. Unit 4 (Part A) - Greek Mythology, philosophy, literature and demoncracy.
THIRD QUARTER Unit 4 (Part B) - Ancient Greece continued. Unit 5 - Democracy in Greece, roles of men, women and slaves. Life in Sparta, the Peloponnesian War. Unit 6 - The Roman Republic, the Roman Empire, religion, architecture and technology in ancient Rome. Unit 8 - Religion - we will explore Hinduism, Buddhism and the Islamic faith.
FOURTH QUARTER Unit 7 - Social classes in Rome, the birth of Christianity, Constantine, invasions and the fall of Rome. Unit 8 - Ancient China and Ancient India
